New International Ecolabelled Products standard released
GECA has released a new version of its International Ecolabelled Products (IEP) standard, which recognises products certified under many overseas schemes that are part of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN).
The standard enables products certified under schemes accredited by GEN’s Internationally Coordinated Ecolabelling System (GENICES) or the EU-Ecolabel that do not fit under an existing GECA standard to be recognised in Australia. The IEP standard allows those certificates to be considered sufficient Demonstration of Conformance against Criteria 2-8 in the standard.
Products certified under other international schemes may be considered by GECA if the scheme meets the requirements of ISO 14024 and the particular standard is sufficiently environmentally robust.
Additional criteria have been included in the standard to ensure the comprehensiveness from a life cycle perspective of the overseas standard and that greenwashing does not occur. Social and legal compliance criteria have also been updated.
GECA has also made some small amendments to the Personal Care Products standard.
