Inside Joyce Foam’s production facility
Creating foam products with the environment in mind isn’t always an easy task. However, Joyce Foam is tackling the issue by using Variable Pressure Foam (VPF) technology at their production facility. This drastically reduces air emissions and solidifies Joyce Foam’s commitment to environmentally responsible manufacturing.
VPF has revolutionised foam production globally. It uses atmospheric pressure to produce polyurethane foam from its two key ingredients, polyol and toluene diisocyanate. These chemicals are combined in a climate controlled environment to ensure they stay at optimum temperature prior to entering the foam machine. Once they’re inside, atmospheric pressure can be adjusted depending on the foam being produced, with no extra chemicals required as blowing agents.
The technology captures 100% of emissions from the process of foam production, keeping them from being released into the surrounding environment. These emissions are captured and filtered through a charcoal system, virtually eliminating the release of any byproducts into the atmosphere.
According to Joyce Foam, “VPF enables us to develop and produce unique, value-enhancing products for our customers, while providing higher yields from raw materials than traditional foaming methods”. One such product is Quiltec, a polyfibre replacement foam ideal for mattresses, which has a lower density and softer feel compared to foams manufactured using conventional foam machines.
Joyce Foam currently have all of their products certified with GECA under the Furniture, Fittings and Foam standard, and are available in many leading mattress brands across Australia.
